Cuba Trek Supporting Macmillan

NACO Cuba Trek

Neil Buist, NACO General Secretary, and Jack Devers, President,  have now completed their walk through Cuba in support of Macmillan as the nominated President’s Charity for 2013. Neil and Jack are aiming to raise even more money for the charity through your donations, so please dig deep!

Jack Devers commented "it was a really big trek across the mountains, but the chance to raise money for Macmillan and raise awareness of the work they do was worth every stride!

With the NACO Golf Day, our Coast-to-Coast Cycle and the fundraising from Alfreton CRL Depot, we have raised over £20,000 this year. Every extra penny will help Macmillan so dig deep and donate now!"

The Cuban hike took Neil and Jack from Havana, the historic capital on the north coast, right across the island to Trinidad, a 500-year-old city founded by Spanish colonialists and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The long trek to Trinidad is a week's walk and required Jack and Neil to hike through the Escambray Mountains which peak at over 3,000ft. Passing caves, rivers, waterfalls, and canyons whilst negotiating their way through rainforests and plantations the trek was certainly out of the NACO pair's comfort zone. And then came the camping!
Neil commented "Trekking for long days in stifling heat and camping on hard ground was really tough but the opportunity to raise money for Macmillan made it all well worth the effort!"
Jack and Neil are now back working hard for NACO and the co-operative movement but donations can still be made online at or by post to the NACO National Office.
We are Macmillan

About Macmillan Cancer Support
One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest fight most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.
Macmillan provides practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. They are the nurses and therapists helping you through treatment; the advisers telling you which benefits you're entitled to; the volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things; and the campaigners pushing for better cancer care.
By joining NACO in support of Macmillan you're helping support people and their families living with cancer. We can all be part of the team. We are Macmillan Cancer Support.
