NACO: Proudly Supporting Macmillan

Rochdale to Manchester Barrow Walk
Sunday 16th September 2012

NACO Barrow Walk

As the co-operative movement worldwide celebrates the International Year of Co-operatives, NACO hosts the inaugural 'Barrow Walk'!

The concept is simple: a group of NACO members will share the work of walking a single barrow of produce from Rochdale to Manchester. Donations will be collected for Macmillan Cancer Support, the NACO President's Charity 2012/13. The route will be via the canal towpath for most of the way, avoiding major roads. Get involved!

Why a Barrow Walk?
In 1844, the Rochdale Pioneers were forced to transport goods by wheelbarrow from wholesalers in Manchester to their original store in Toad Lane, Rochdale.

To recognise the efforts of these early co-operators, NACO members will walk a barrow of produce 14 miles from the Co-operative Museum in Rochdale to the CIS Tower in Manchester. Of course, if you'd like to dress as a Pioneer that would be even better!

The walk will ultimately finish with a premiere screening of The Rochdale Pioneers film at the Printworks, Manchester. All money raised will support Macmillan.

Coast-2-Coast Challenge
28th-30th September 2012NACO Coast-to-Coast Challenge

Again in support of the NACO President’s Charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, Jack Devers will lead a group of NACO members on the official C2C cycle route from Whitehaven in Cumbria (West Coast) to Tynemouth in Tyne & Wear (East Coast).
Get involved!

On Your Bike!
Although the C2C route has been completed by cyclists of many different ability levels, it is a challenge! To participate you'll need to make sure that you are physically prepared for the C2C by doing some training rides prior to attempting the route. You don’t have to be Superman to complete it, but, you do need to know that you can manage more than 10 miles on a bike!
